from overnight, a roadside bomb blast killed 18 people in afghanistan. police say a mini bus ran over a bomb in the southern helmand province. no group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. there are children among the dead. 2011 has been a deadly year so far. the united nations reports the number of afghan civilians killed has risen by 15% compared to last year. >>> a handful of teenagers are accused of breaking into a fire station in southeast washington. according to the washington examiner, thieves ransacked the fire station along the atlantic avenue on tuesday while crews were fighting the flames along savannah street. the burglars trashed the watch officer's desk, then stole items, including a uniform, a camera, a wallet, and a firefighter's bmw. the teens, age 14 through 18, reportedly took the car out for a joyride and ditched it. they have identified the teens but so far haven't made any arrests. >>> today will be leslie johnson's last day on the prince george's county council. johnson's resignation takes effect on sunday. the council will hold a special election

troops to leave afghanistan as part of the u.s. drawdown have handed over their security responsibilities to afghan forces. the 650 members of the iowa national guard's first squadron, 113th cavalry regiment are on their way home now. they completed 3,800 combat missions and trained 400 afghan police officers. president obama announced last month that he would pull 10,000 u.s. troops out of afghanistan in 2011, and the remaining 23,000 by next summer. >>> today, members of congress will join family members who lost loved ones in the 9/11 attacks. they will help stitch together an american flag that became tattered and worn following the september 11th attacks. the flag once hung at the construction site overlooking ground zero. it has since traveled the country getting one stitch after another in all 50 states. once finished, the flag will language in the national 9/11 memorial museum that is now under construction at ground zero. >>> some members of congress are now calling for an investigation here in the united states. this move comes after journalists from the new def
